How to Link Your Custom Domain to Your WebFol Portfolio

This guide helps you link your custom domain to your portfolio on WebFol using Cloudflare. By following these steps, your portfolio will be displayed on your custom domain (e.g., yourdomain.com) instead of webfol.com/username.

Step 1: Create a Cloudflare Account

  1. Go to Cloudflare's website.
  2. Click on Sign Up in the top right corner.
  3. Enter your email address and create a password.
  4. Click Create Account.

Step 2: Add Your Custom Domain to Cloudflare

  1. After logging in, click on Add a Site.
  2. Enter your custom domain name (e.g., yourdomain.com) and click Next.
  3. Choose the Free Plan and click Continue.
  4. Cloudflare will automatically scan your current DNS records. Don't worry if you see existing records; we will add a new one.
  5. Click Continue.

Step 3: Update DNS Settings in Cloudflare

You need to point your custom domain to WebFol using a CNAME Record. Here's how:

  1. In Cloudflare's DNS Settings, click Add Record.
  2. Choose the following settings: 
    • Type: CNAME
    • Name: @ (This represents your root domain, e.g., yourdomain.com)
    • Target: webfol.com
    • Proxy Status: Proxied (orange cloud)
  3. Click Save.

Optional: If you want to use www with your domain (e.g., www.yourdomain.com), add another CNAME record:

  • Type: CNAME
  • Name: www
  • Target: webfol.com
  • Proxy Status: Proxied

Step 4: Change Nameservers to Cloudflare

To activate Cloudflare, you need to change your domain’s nameservers.

  1. Cloudflare will show you two nameservers (e.g., ns1.example.com and ns2.example.com).
  2. Go to your domain registrar's website (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.).
  3. Find the DNS Settings or Nameservers section.
  4. Replace the existing nameservers with the ones provided by Cloudflare.
  5. Save the changes.

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for the changes to take effect, but it usually happens within a few hours.

Step 5: Enable SSL in Cloudflare

  1. In the Cloudflare dashboard, go to SSL/TLS.
  2. Set SSL Mode to Full.

Step 6: Add Custom Domain in WebFol

  1. Go to your WebFol Dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Settings → Custom Domain.

Step 7: Test Your Custom Domain

  • Open a browser and visit your custom domain (e.g., yourdomain.com).
  • Your WebFol portfolio should appear under your custom domain!

  • Not Seeing Your Portfolio? DNS propagation can take a few hours. Try clearing your browser cache or using an incognito window.
  • SSL Issues? Ensure Proxy Status is set to Proxied (orange cloud) in Cloudflare's DNS settings.
